Venture to the middle of the Irish sea and discover this beautiful enigmatic place crammed with stories to explore. The Isle of Man – Ellen Vannin - one of the world’s most beautiful islands is right on our doorstep.
From its sandy bays, soaring cliffs and open moors, to secret coves, and mountainous hills, this 572 square mile island is a part of our culture where values, time and the pace of life seem to have stood still. Although the Isle of Man is not part of the UK, it is a Crown dependency so you will not need your passport.
The island still has its own language, stamps, bank notes and coins although the currency is sterling. The parliament – Tynwald – celebrated 1,000 years of unbroken government in 1979, making it the oldest parliament in continuous existence in the world. To visit the Isle of Man is to experience a world of dramatic and unusual contrasts - old and new, town and country, land and sea – all infused with the laid-back warmth and friendliness for which the Island’s people are famous framed by a large variety of flora and fauna found around the island.
The charming legend has it that you can see seven different kingdoms from the 2,036 foot top of Snaefell Mountain; Scotland, England, Wales, Ireland, Mann, Heaven and Nuptune! (weather and sea god Manannin’s cloak permitting).
The island provides the visitor with much to see and do. As well as relaxing during your stay in the Islands premier town, you can also enjoy three days of excursions through the rich and diverse countryside of highland glens and emerald meadows to see as much as possible during your time on the Island. Visits will include the famous Laxey wheel, the fishing port of Peel with its cliff top castle and award winning ‘House of Manannin’ museum, the Cregnash Village Folk Museum and the capital Douglas with its famous horse-drawn trams.
